CALVERT CITY – The four men, three state inmates and one city employee accused of committing drug crimes, from criminal facilitation to manufacturing methamphetamine near Calvert City Elementary School, appeared in district court last Wednesday.

Twenty-two year-old inmate Jordan Kilgore, 35 year-old inmate David Crosier, 29 year-old inmate John Cox and 38 year-old city employee Shane Greer all waived their rights to preliminary hearings in district court.

With council by their side, each asked that their cases be heard by the grand jury when they reconvene on Dec. 10.

Each have been ordered to appear in Circuit Court on Dec. 21 where the verdict of the grand jury will be heard.

The suspects were all remanded back into custody with the exception of Greer, whose bond was modified by a motion of the Commonwealth.

District Court Judge Jack Telle heard the request and stated for the record that the court was “concerned” regarding the modification of bond “in relation to the proximity of a school for which this incident [conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine] is alleged to have occurred.”

After further review, and having no other major offenses on his record, Telle modified Greer’s bond to reflect that he could be released on a land-secured bond and ordered that he must stay at his parent’s residence, where he is to remain at all times unless enroute to council’s office, court or seeking immediate medical attention.

Telle also stated as part of Greer’s bond agreement that he not come in contact with any educational premises.

GPS monitoring was suggested, however, Greer’s attorney, Don Thomas, stated his client was currently without employment and had no means to pay the fee for daily tracking.

The lead investigating officer in this case, Robby West of the Calvert City Police Department said while 49 year-old Glen Heater has been publicly implicated in this case, he has not been arrested in connection with it at this time.

Heater was arrested for drug trafficking in the city park last week.

West said his agency, as well as the Pennyrile Narcotics Department and Marshall County Sheriff’s Department have put hundreds of man-hours into this investigation which is still ongoing.

West said the camera systems in Calvert City, used to help aid in identifying suspects in this case, have been, and continue to be valuable assets in securing the safety of the city’s residents.

“In my opinion, they have more than paid for themselves, especially where this case is concerned.” West said the inmates were aware the cameras were in place.
