GILBERTSVILLE – A local business is hoping to show patrons a view of Marshall County they’ve never seen before. Kentucky Shores in Gilbertsville will open zip-line tours April 29, offering adventure seeking customers a chance to take to the sky.

Provided they can find employees who don’t mind working 50 feet off the ground.

“That’s been difficult, finding people who are not afraid of heights,” said co-owner Tom Erwin. “Right now, we’re still looking for employees.”

Erwin, who co-owns the recreation desitnation with George Rexroad, said they plan to train employees for two days prior to opening the attraction April 29.

“We will have our inspection done April 27,” Erwin said. “Training for our staff will be done April 27 and 28.”

Zipline tours will begin across from Kentucky Shores on U.S. Hwy 641. The course currently has 2,000 feet and nine individual lines. There are also two skybridges. The tour is expected to take nearly two hours to complete, crossing areas of Gilberstville fifty feet in the air.

Participants will take part in a training session prior to setting off. Zipliners will be secured with a harness and carabineer as they navigate along the cables.

Erwin said an expansion is planned and that Kentucky Shores recently purchased additional land to make it happen. The second phase of construction is expected to be completed in 2013 with more of an emphasis on height and speed.

Tours will be conducted during daylight hours, with the ziplines opening slightly earlier than the rest of the facility. Erwin encouraged potential zipliners to visit Kentucky Shores’ web site for more information, or its facebook page for reservaiton information or discounts.

“We will be offering packages and discounts on our facebook page,” Erwin said. “We also encourage people to make reservations for the zipline tours.”
