UPDATE:

The Marshall County Coroner's Office has released the name of the victim from yesterday's fatal accident at Westlake Vinyls in Calvert City. James Bradley Smith, 31, of Calvert City, died at 10:28 a.m. at Marshall County Hospital. Smith was transported to the hospital following the accident that occurred at approximately 9 a.m. according to Westlake spokesman, Kent Johnson. The incident is under investigation by the Marshall County Coroner's office and the Marshall County Sheriff's Department.

CALVERT CITY – An employee of PSC JESCO Industrial Services of Calvert City was killed in an accident at Westlake Chemical Corporation in Calvert City Monday morning.

Kent Johnson, HR Manager with Westlake PVC Corp. confirmed the employee was killed while performing contracted services inside the plant. PSC JESCO Industrial Services is a water blasting contractor who routinely has employees inside the plant in Calvert City.

Johnson said the accident occurred inside the plant at approximately 9 a.m. Monday.

“Westlake expresses condolences to the family of the Jesco employee for their loss. Westlake Chemical Corporation will cooperate with JESCO as the investigation is conducted to determine the root cause of the accident,” said Johnson.

An employee of PSC JESCO confirmed the deceased was an employee of the Calvert City office of the company, but would not identify him. Likewise, Westlake officials would not identify the accident victim as of press time.
