BRIENSBURG – Emergency responders worked to free a Benton woman Thursday afternoon following a collision on U.S. Highway 68 in Briensburg. Brittany I. Paris, 24, was transported to Lourdes after being removed from her car and is expected to be tranferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., this week for surgery.
According to witnesses on the scene and police reports, Paris approached the intersection of Hwy. 68 and B-T connector, where a vehicle driven by Leigh Gideon sat. Paris’s vehicle navigated around Gideon’s vehicle and onto Hwy. 68 heading eastbound, where it collided with a Chevrolet pickup driven by Gerald L. Brown, 73. The vehicles hit head on, coming to a rest in a nearby parking lot.
“Evidently, she didn’t see the vehicle stopped in front of her,” said Sheriff Kevin Byars. “The investigating officer has spoken to her and she really doesn’t remember anything.”
Brown, of Jonesboro, Ill., and his passengers, and Paris were all transported from the scene by Marshall County Ambulance Service. Palma-Briensburg and East Marshall fire departments responded, along with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. The wreck closed down a portion of Hwy. 68 for approximately an hour.
