William R. “Billy Ray” Lassiter, 84, Benton, died at 12:44 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Baptist Health Paducah.

Bill worked as a welder and later a foreman for the Pennwalt Corporation where he retired after 40 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a self-employed farmer, a member of T.L. Jefferson Masonic Lodge #155 F & AM and First Christian Church.

Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara Lee Smith Lassiter, who he married on April 11, 1953; his daughter, Marla Lassiter Cates and husband Jeff, Raleigh, N.C.; three grandchildren, Erin Cates Smith and husband Jason, Shelley Cates and Tara Cates; and three great grandchildren, Asher Smith, Sullivan Smith and Juliet Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Andy Lassiter and Mary Josephine Locker Lassiter.

A funeral service was held Saturday, April 13, at First Christian Church. The Rev. Tim Polley officiated. Burial followed in the Benton Cemetery.
