Wet roadways and speed have led to a number of traffic accidents across the region today.

Shortly after 10:00 this morning police responded to a single-vehicle accident on the exit ramp of Interstate 24 onto the Purchase Parkway. The driver of a pick-up truck lost control and overturned on the ramp. Neither the driver nor his passenger were injured in the accident.

Earlier this morning numerous wrecks were reported across the region. A portion of the Purchase Parkway was closed from mile marker 28-31 in Graves County when a vehicle hydroplaned and crossed the median into oncoming traffic.

Kentucky State Police say Cynthia Henderson, 30, of Benton, was injured when Michael Winn, 43, of Mayfield lost control of his vehicle and crossed into the southbound lanes of the Parkway, striking Henderson's vehicle. Both Henderson and Winn were taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center where they were treated for minor injuries and released.

More heavy rain is in the forecast for this afternoon and evening. Police are asking the public to slow down and use extreme caution on wet roadways.
