EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Post 236 Titans missed the championship round of the Bosse Throwback Tourney when their game Saturday against Sullivan (Ind.) Post 139 ended in a 4-4 tie after six innings.

The Titans were 2-2 in four games Thursday, Friday and Saturday prior to the matchup with Sullivan, which was 3-1 in pool play.

The team, sponsored by William A. Doyle Post 236 of Calvert City, snapped a seven-game losing streak with a win in the opening round of the tournament Thursday, 8-5 over Boonville (Ind.) Post 200 and whipped Piatt County Legion of Bement, Ill., 13-5 and dropped games to Crawfordsville (Ind.) Post 72 and Eugene Pate Post 265 of Evansville.

Before heading to the Evansville tournament, the Titans fell 7-5 to the SEMO Strokers in Cape Girardeau.

After nine straight games on the road, the Titans were to open a 10-game home stand with a double-header against Henderson Post 40 on Monday. Mayfield Post 26 is slated to visit today for a single game at 6 p.m.

Other action this week has Jackson (Mo.) Post 158 at Mike Miller Park for a twin bill starting at 6 p.m. and Bowling Green and Dyersburg (Tenn.) Post 191 will be the opponents for double-headers Saturday and Sunday, starting at 1 p.m. both days.

Lyon County Post 68 is at Miller Park for a single game at 6:30 on Monday to conclude the run of home games.

The Titans had a 4-12 record going into this week. Six games are slated for July 10-18 and the team will play in a tournament at Dyersburg July 19-21 to close out regular season play.

The District 1 tournament will be a single-day affair Monday July 22 at Eddyville, with Lyon County Post 68 as the host team. The state tournament will be July 30-Aug. 4 in Campbellsville.

Sullivan 4, Titans 4

After a two-hour rain delay and three scoreless innings, the Titans got three runs in the top of the fourth inning to forge a 3-3 tie. Then, after Sullivan went up 4-3 with a run in the bottom of the fourth, Post 236 tied it again with a run in the top of the six and held Sullivan scoreless in the bottom of the frame.

Aaron Armstrong was 2-for-4 with a double for Post 236. Kalen Parker went the distance on the mound.

Armstrong, Tyler Graham and B.J. Elder reached base on a double and a pair of walks. Bryce Orr had an infield hit to score Armstrong, Cody Gilbert drew a walk to drive in Graham and Coby Massey walked to bring Elder home with the tying run in the fourth.

In the sixth, Gilbert had a one-out single, stole second and scored on a single by Tanner Foster.

At the Central High field, Post 236 roared back from a 5-1 deficit with one run in the bottom of the third and six runs in the bottom of the fourth and never looked back as they took their second win against two losses in the tournament.

The Titans led 1-0 after one inning, taking the early lead when Coby Massey was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a double by Aaron Armstrong.

Piatt County Legion, from Bement, Ill., tied it in the top of the second and then added four runs in the top of the third. But that was the end of the scoring for them, while Post 236 got its offense cranked up.

A walk to Tanner Foster was followed by singles by Armstrong and Kalen Parker, but Foster was thrown out trying to score from second. Armstrong, advancing to third, came in on an errant throw by the Piatt County catcher to make it 5-2.

The Titans took control in the fourth. A hit batter, a walk and a bunt for a base hit loaded the bases with no outs. Will Carr scored on a wild throw and Coby Massey’s one-out double drove in B.J. Elder and Andrew Harris.

Then Armstrong doubled with two outs to bring Massey home, Parker reached on an error and Shubert Moffatt’s fly to right center was dropped, scoring Armstrong and Parker.

Post 236 added five more runs in the sixth as Bryce Orr, who relieved starter Tyler Graham in the fourth, limited the Illinois team to one hit in the final four frames.

Tanner Foster had a sacrifice fly for an RBI, Armstrong drove in another run with a single, Moffatt drove in two runs with a double and Cody Gilbert drew a bases-loaded walk for another RBI. Gilbert, Massey, Armstrong, Parker and Moffatt scored the runs.

Eugene Pate Post 265 of Evansville broke the game open with five runs in the second inning and salted it away with seven more runs in the final three innings for a 10-run mercy rule victory at Central High School Friday.

Three errors and four singles got the five runs and made it a 6-1 game before Post 236 could retire the first batter of the second inning.

After Pate took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Titans tied it at 1-1 when Coby Massey drew a one-out walk, stole second and scored on Aaron Armstron’s single to right center.

Post 236 got two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the game to the sixth with a 12-3 score. Bryce Orr led off with a single, Cody Gilbert walked and Massey’s ground ball retired Gilbert but moved Orr to third.

Tanner Foster’s RBI single plated Orr and Shubert Moffatt singled to bring in Massey.

The Titans were handcuffed by Bryce Woodall, who gave up only one hit and struck out six in five shutout innings as Crawfordsville (Ind.) Post 72 jumped out to a 7-0 lead at Washington Middle School in Post 236’s first game Friday.

Post 236 put three runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Cody Gilbert drew a leadoff walk and Coby Massey was hit by a pitch from Post 72 reliever Conner Smith, and a single by Tanner Foster scored Gilbert. Then Aaron Armstrong was hit to load the bases.

Kalen Parker singled to drive in Massey, but Foster was thrown out trying to score from second. Armstrong went to third on the play and scored on a single by Moffatt.

The Titans got one more run in the seventh, but that was as close as it would get. Gilbert singled and Massey drew a walk. Tanner Foster’s grounder forced Massey at second but moved Gilbert to third, and he came home on a single by Armstrong.

Post 236 had three errors that contributed to Post 72’s run production.

Post 236 rode a four-run fourth inning to an 8-5 win over Boonville (Ind.) Post 200 Thursday in the opening round of the Bosse Field Throwback Tournament at Washington Middle School.

The Titans got a walk, a hit batter, a double, a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly to take a 6-4 lead. After Boonville trimmed the lead to 6-5 in the fifth, Post 236 answered with two more runs in the sixth and Ryan Alderson, in relief of starter Cody Gilbert, shut down Boonville in the final two innings for the save.

Post 236 trailed 4-2 when the fourth inning rally got started with one out. Byrce Orr drew a walk and Gilbert smacked a double. Then Coby Massey was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Tanner Foster singled to drive in Orr and Gilbert to tie the score and Aaron Armstrong’s sacrifice fly plated Massey with the go-ahead run. Kalen Parker then singled to left center, bringing Foster home with what turned out to be the winning run.

After Boonville cut the lead to 6-5, the Titans added a cushion on a trio of doubles and a single. Massey got the first double with one out, and with two outs, Armstrong doubled to drive in Massey and Kalen Parker got the final extra-base hit to score Armstrong. The inning ended when Shubert Moffatt singled and Parker was thrown out trying to score.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Post 236 dropped its seventh straight game to the Babe Ruth League SEMO Strokers.

Post 236 took a first-inning lead when Cody Gilbert was hit by a pitch, stole second, advanced to third on a bunt by Coby Massey and scored when the Strikers’ play at first base left home plate unattended.

But the Strokers struck in the bottom of the frame, taking a 3-1 lead. They would never relinquish it.

The lead swelled to 7-1 before the Titans scored again, with two runs in the top fo the fourth. Aaron Armstrong singled and came in on a double by Shubert Moffatt, and B.J. Elder drove in Moffatt with a single.

Post 236 cut the lead to two with another pair of runs in the sixth. With two outs, Elder singled and Will Carr was hit by a pitch. Both scored on a triple by Kalen Parker.

The Strokers are scheduled to visit Mike Miller Field on July 16.
