He was retired from Penwalt Chemical Company after 33 years and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a 70 year member of Oak Level United Methodist Church. He enjoyed bowling, woodworking and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norma Lee Jarvis Nelson of Symsonia; his two sons, Hal Thomas Nelson and his wife June of Symsonia and Timothy Jarvis Nelson of Reidland; his daughter, Teresa Lee Crowder and her husband Bill of Hickory; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; his two sisters, Betty Lou Jones of Scotch Plains, NJ and Beverly Ann Utley and her husband Harold of Mason, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter. His parents were Henry Clay Nelson and Lois Shemwell Nelson.
Graveside funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 12 at Marshall County Memory Gardens. Bro. Kendrick Lewis officiated.
