Sylvia M. Herpel, 94, of Paducah died Thursday, July 4 at 10:35 a.m. at Lourdes Hospital. She was a member of Highpoint Pentecostal Church. She formerly worked as a machine operator at Normandy Frocks Dress Factory and at the M. Fine Shirt factory. She loved to sew and especially embroidery.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Stephens of West Paducah, Sue Phillips of Paducah; five grandchildren, Mona Lax of NC, Roger Phillips and wife Lori of Kevil, Renada York and husband Mitch of Benton, Teresa Smith and husband Tim of LaCenter and Melissa McGowan and husband Bob of Paducah; six great-grandchildren, Jennie Harmon, Rachel Lax, Andrea Fagan, Zac Smith, Becca Smith and Samuel Smith, two step-great grandchildren, Kevin McGowan and Chandler McGowan.

She was preceeded in death by her first husband, Paul Sherron, second husband, James “Jim” Herpel, parents, Clarence and Jennie Hall Thompson, one grandson, Dewayne Crance and two brothers, Houston Thompson and Dafton Thompson.

Graveside services were held on Sunday, July 7 at 2:30 p.m. at Palestine Cemetery in West Paducah. Revs. Doug Stevens and Tim Smith officiated.
