MADISONVILLE – Four school records were set by Marshall County swimmers in a meet Friday at Madisonville.
Junior Austin Gordon and sophomore Paul Hudson figured prominently in the achievements. Both were part of the 400 freestyle relay team that reset its own record from last year and each had record times in individual events.
Gordon continued his assault on the 200-yard individual medley record, erasing his own mark with a time of two minutes, 25.87 seconds. His previous record time, 2:26.26, was set at Bowling Green earlier this year, eclipsing the 2:26.28 that he swam last year at Hopkinsville.
He also snapped a four-year old mark in the 100 backstroke with a 1:02.96 time that surpassed Ian Frietag’s 1:04.08 from 2009.
Both school-record times came in second-place performances in the dual meet, won by Madisonville-North Hopkins 197-86.
Hudson won the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.87, beating Josh Gordon’s 2009 Marshall County standard of 1:13.55.
The two teamed with junior Grant Park and freshman David O’Rear to win the 400 freestyle relay at 3:57.61.
The previous mark was set by the same quartet last year at 4:09.18.
In other events, Abby Spicer, Allie Pearson, Carli Merrick and Jessica Anderson won the 200 medley relay and Park won the boys 50 freestyle.
Two meets were on tap this week to wrap up the regular season. The first was slated for Monday at the Paducah Athletic Club and the Mustang Invitational, hosted by Muhlenberg County in Greenville, is on tap for Saturday.
The regional meet will be held Feb. 8-9 at the Owensboro Wellness Center.
