Silver Trail Distillery will be the focus of this week’s episode of “Moonshiners” on the Discovery Channel. The show will air at 9 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Spencer Balentine, owner of Silver Trail Distillery, said the show was filmed in Aurora, Hardin, Kenlake and Canton over a three-week period in October.
“Moonshiners” tells the story of those who brew their own “shine.” It’s a multi-million dollar industry. But perhaps more importantly to the moonshiners, it’s a tradition dating back hundreds of years, passed down to them from their forefathers. It’s part of their history and culture.
Such is the case of Spencer Balentine and his Silver Trail Distillery, which now produces LBL’s Most Wanted Moonshine just outside Hardin.
Balentine uses an 80-year-old recipe passed down through generations and the label and story were inspired by his memories as a child.
Many of the show’s subjects are producing moonshine illegally. For Balentine, it is a legal business which has gained him a spot on the state’s Bourbon Trail.
