The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and the State Fire Marshal’s office are working in collaboration to investigate a house fire on Stewart Drive, the second in an unoccupied residence in Marshall County in a weeks time.
The house fire on Stewart Drive, in Benton, broke out at around 3 a.m on Aug. 7.
Marshall County Sheriff Kevin Byars said there was very little information available about the fire at this time, but said state fire marshals collected samples from the house’s remains.
“We sent the samples off the lab to see if an accelerant was involved,” he said. “We won’t get those results back for several weeks.”
There was another unoccupied house fire at Marshall Circle, in Gilbertsville, and Byars confirmed the power was blocked from both residences.
The houses where the fires occurred are around 5 miles from one another and it is not known at this time if there is any connection.
The investigations are ongoing by both agencies at this time.
