Staff Report

Spring sports kick into full gear in the second and third weeks of March, with baseball, tennis and track and field events this week and softball joining the mix next week.

The preseason Meet the Marshals event was slated for Monday at Reed Conder Gymnasium, while season-opening events for the Marshals and Lady Marshals tennis team and the first game of the year for the Christian Fellowship baseball team were scheduled for Monday afternoon, weather permitting.

CFS was slated to host Dawson Springs at the Eagles field in Briensburg.

The opening opponent for the MCHS tennis team was Graves County. The Marshals and Lady Marshals travel to Paducah Tilghman today for a 4 p.m. match.

Also on tap for today is the All Comers track and field meet at Carroll Traylor Stadium, as the Marshals and Lady Marshals open their outdoor season. Action continues on Saturday, with Marshall County athletes in the Area 1-Area 2 Challenge at Muhlenberg County High School in Greenville.

Tennis play continues on Thursday, with Marshall County at Community Christian Academy in Paducah for a 4 p.m. match. Calloway County visits Monday at 3:45.

Baseball season begins Saturday for the Marshals and new coach Mike Johnson traveling to Trigg County for a 1 p.m. game.

Two days later, on Monday, the softball Lady Marshals and new coach Kara Hamby will be at Lyon County in Eddyville for a 5:30 game.

The Lady Marshals, originally scheduled to play their first home game March 28 against Heath, have swapped home dates with the Lady Pirates, making the April 9 visit by Lone Oak the home opener.

The change will allow more time for construction to be completed on the new press box and concession facility at the MCHS field.

Heath will visit on May 14.
