Sara Allene Petway Edwards, 87, of Paducah, died Wednesday, June 12 at 8:10 a.m. at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A native of Marshall County, Sara was born June 5, 1926 to the late Artie Owen Petway and Mary Mable Alvey Petway. She was a 58-year member at Immanuel Baptist Church of Paducah and served in various positions for 50 years, especially loving her work with the children as well as church librarian. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her other interests included gardening, reading, genealogy, golfing and travel. Sara was an award winning quilter and an excellent seamstree. Most of all she loved being with family, who affectionately called her “Marmee.”

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Forest Richard Edwards; four daughters, Patricia Lynn Edwards Barkley and husband Alben W. Barkley II of Marion, Vicki Edwards Norman and husband Michael B. of Wilkesboro, NC, Cynthia Lee Elliott of Paducah and Michal (Mike) Edwards Herrington and husband Norris R. of Sedalia, MO; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Artie Alvey Petway and wife Melva, and Doris Marie Arnold.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, six brothers and her parents.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15 at Milner and Orr Funeral Home. Micheal B. Norman officiated. Burial followed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
