OWENSBORO – Marshall County cross country runners took part in the Fast Cats Classic at Yellow Creek Park in Owensboro.

Senior Kyle Barry led the MC contingent with a third-place finish in the boys’ varsity 5k race.

“We had runners in boys and girls varsity and the open mixed race,” coach Chris Kerrick said.

Barry went the distance in 16 minutes, 51.91 seconds, finishing close behind Muhlenberg County’s Geary Chase (16:17.52) and Daviess County’s Cameron Quisenberry (16:50.17).

“Kyle had a huge finish,” Kerrick said, to close to within about a second of the runner-up spot.

But Kerrick was even more excited about a first-time effort by Collin Gunn, a new addition to the roster.

“He broke 19 minutes in his first varsity race and finished fourth on our team,” Kerrick said.

Gunn was 74th among individual runners with a time of 18:58.02.

The Marshals placed eighth out of 18 teams with 224 points.

Daviess County, winner of the MarshallCounty Invitational earlier this month, was the winner with 31 points.

Daviess also took top honors in the girls’ varsity 5K with 27 points.

The Lady Marshals came in 10th among 15 teams with 248 points.

Rachel Northcutt led the way with a 15th-place finish in 21:15.31.

“Most of the girls set personal record times,” Kerrick said.

The girls’ varsity winner was Whitney O’Bryan of Daviess County with a time of 18:26.06.

Kirsten Ivy was 11th and Kayla Eicholtz 13th among 15 women competitors in the mixed 5K.
