He was a native of Marshall County, and the son of the late Joseph Darnall and Flora Mathis Darnall and the widower of Bea Parker Darnall. He was a retired music teacher and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by a son, Roy Owen Darnall of Richmond, Va.; two step-daughters, Anna Joyce McPherson and Linda F. McClintock and four grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Darnall; two sisters, Lena Walker and Alice Catherine Duke; and three brothers, Paul Darnall, Henry Clay Darnall, and Joseph Darnall Jr.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 27, at 2 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at 302 Pine Lake Drive, Elizabeth City, NC. Twiford Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, is serving the Darnall family.
