BREWERS – An early morning home invasion Monday ended in a Kirksey man being shot and a second assailant fleeing the scene.
According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, just before 4 a.m. Monday, two males entered the home of Jack Thompson on Oak Grove Church Road in Brewers. Thompson and his wife were home at the time of the invasion.
Hearing a disturbance, Thompson grabbed a handgun. He was met at his bedroom door by one of the assailants, Mitchell Saddoris, 22, of Kirksey. Thompson fired three rounds at the assailant striking him at least once.
Saddoris came at Thompson again, but the homeowner retreived a shotgun and fired striking the assailant in the right shoulder.
Saddoris was located on scene when officers arrived and was transported to Marshall County Hospital. He was later airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where he was undergoing surgery as of presstime.
A second assailant fled the scene. He is described as a white male wearing a yellow shirt. It is not believed that he was struck by the firearm. Sheriff Kevin Byars said his department is seeking more information on the second assailant.
“We’ve got some details, but not enough to release right now,” Byars said.
There is currently no indication the assailants knew the Thompsons. Byars said the homeowners were not injured in the attack.
The case is being investigated by Detective Dan Melone.
Any information or possible identity of the second assailant may be made by contacting Marshall County Sheriff’s Office (270) 527-3112 or Marshall County Crime Stoppers at 527-COPS (2677).
