PADUCAH – Racing will resume for the first time since June 28 at Paducah International Raceway on Thursday.

The track, which ceased regular weekly operation after Friday night race programs on June 21 and 28, will stage is annual NASCAR Night this week. Three-time Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart and veteran driver Ken Schrader, who have an ownership stake in the 3/8-mile dirt track, are scheduled to compete.

Two-time Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip is also scheduled to be on hand for an autograph session with Stewart and Schrader at 5 p.m.

Gates open at 3 p.m. with hot laps at 7 and racing getting under way at 7:30. Admission is $18 for adults, $12 for children 6-12 and free for children 5 and under. Pit passes are $30.

A full schedule of racing is on tap featuring Super Late Model, Modified, Pro (Crate) Late Model, Street Stock and Outlaw four-cylinder classes, plus the Kentucky Vintage Racing Association classic stocks.

The track suffered rainouts in six of its first eight attempts to race this year. Promoter Bob Sargent shut down the track, canceling events slated for May 31 and June 7 and 14, then re-opened with a fan appreciation night June 21 and the Summer Nationals-Chris Smith Memorial race on June 28.

n At Beacon Dragway’s “Night of Fire” featuring NHRA Top Fuel Dragster exhibition runs, Bobby Thompson was the Super Pro Box winner.

Jake Overstreet won in the Pro No Box class and Harold Harned was the Street winner and Kevin Teitsort won in Motorcycle.

Beacon has changed its Thursday night test-and-tune to Friday nights, effective this week. Gates open at 4 p.m. General admission is $10 with children under 12 admitted free.

There will be no racing on Saturday night, but Sunday will feature the Bluegrass Streeet Car Nationals fun and grudge racing meet.
