MACON, Ga. – Benton golfer Patrick Newcomb, a rising senior on the Murray State University team, has qualified for the 112th United States Amateur tournament by taking medalist honors Tuesday at the regional qualifier at The Brickyard at Riverside Golf Club in Macon.

Newcomb advances to the U.S. Amateur Aug. 13-19 at Cherry Hills Country Club at Cherry Hills Village, Colo.

Newcomb is the first Murray State golfer to compete in the U.S. Amateur since his brother, Nick, qualified in 2006.

Both played golf at Marshall County High School, with Patrick a part of the state championship team in 2007.
