“We opened the Clinic at Walmart in order to provide another convenient, cost-effective healthcare option for people from all areas of Marshall County,” said Steve Burford, Executive Director of Physician Services.
Convenient care clinics located inside or near stores such as Walmart have had mixed results in other parts of the country for their fast and affordable access to health services. But the extremely low volume at the Benton Walmart Clinic made this location financially unsustainable to operate. In order to break even, the clinic would have had to see at least 25 patients a day.
“We’re pleased to be able to say that even with the closing of the Clinic at Walmart, Murray-Calloway County Hospital operates two additional local clinics that are still a convenient healthcare option,” added Burford. “Our clinics have been very successful, and all of our primary care offices are accepting new patients.”
Both Albertson Family Medical and Marshall County Family Medical are open Monday - Friday to meet the needs of people with minor injuries and illnesses, including colds, flu, scrapes, ear infections, and full wellness services. Same day appointments are a good option for those residents needing immediate healthcare.
“We value our employees at the Walmart Clinic and will be working with them individually for possible opportunities elsewhere in the organization,” said Burford.
