Mary Jo Mitchell, 82, of Benton died on Wednesday, June 25 at Marshall Co. Hospital in Benton. She was a retired Director of the Marshall County Senior Citizens. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of Brooks Chapel United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Southern Gospel Quartet, the Gospel Echoes.

She was born Tuesday, February 16, 1932 in Calloway County. She was the daughter of the late John Ramsey and the late Nellie (Jones) Ramsey.

She is survived by her son, Thomas Keith Mitchell of Hardin, daughter, Cindy Mitchell Wiley, husband Bob of Benton, sister, Nell Wilson of Benton; four grand children: Lisa Mitchell Walker, husband Terry of Hardin, Matthew Stephen Wiley, wife Sara of Austin, Texas, Lacinda Wiley English, husband Kyle of Benton, Jamie Mitchell, wife Tasha of Dexter; five great grand children: Meghan Nicole Foster and Morgan Rose Foster of Hardin, Wiley Stephen English and Anna Grace English of Benton and Jack Thomas Mitchell of Dexter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: James Thomas “Tommy” Mitchell; son, James Stephen Mitchell; four brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 28 at Brooks Chapel United Methodist Church.Rev. Sam Chambers and Rev. Bob Wiley officiated.

Interment followed in Brooks Chapel Cemetery in Dexter.
