Marshals win 1, lose 1 at Clinton

ALBANY, Ky. – Marshall County went into the final day of the Twin Lakes Holiday Classic Sunday with a 1-1 record and two games yet to be played.

The Marshals took a 53-48 win over Knox Central on Saturday after opening tournament play on Friday with a 66-49 defeat at the hands of Sevier County, Tenn.

The Marshals were to play Metcalfe County and host Clinton County Sunday in the final day of the tournament.

Austin Rentfrow scored 21 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead the win over Knox Central.

The Marshals trailed 13-10 after the first period of play, but pulled ahead in the second quarter and led 25-24 at halftime.

D.J. Pigg nailed a 3-point shot to open the second half and push the lead to 4 points, and the Marshals held on the rest of the way to move their record above .500 at 4-3.

Pigg added 10 points for the Marshals.

Matthew Barger and Dustin Hensley each sccored 13 for Knox Central.

Sevier County sprinted away with a 17-8 spurt in the final quarter to put away the Marshals Friday..

Austin Rentfrow led the way with 17 points for Marshall County. Mason Wooten added 10.

Jacob Whaley and Cody Underwood led Sevier County with 18 points apiece.
