DRAFFENVILLE – A second-quarter drought, in which powerful Marshall County managed only five points, proved to be only a momentary nuisance as the Marshals defeated Calloway County 62-51 Friday night in a boys’ basketball game at Reed Conder Gymnasium.



The Marshals, who led 21-10 after the first quarter but only 26-21 at halftime, regained their stride in the second half. But Calloway’s three-point shooting kept the Marshals from ever putting the game away, and much of the game was much closer than the 11-point margin of victory.



Cole Nelson and Chase Clark scored 17 points apiece for the Marshals, 24-2 and a perfect 5-0 in Fourth District play. Calloway, which got 19 points from Conner Wagner, dropped to 9-16, 2-3.



Nelson, a 6-3 senior guard, also pulled down 11 rebounds to lead a 27-18 Marshall advantage on the boards and handed out five of the Marshals’ 11 assists.
