LA CENTER – The Marshall County boys golf team came away with a fifth-place finish in the Ballard Memorial Invitational golf tournament Friday at Ballard Country Club.

A second Marshall entry made up of younger players also competed in the tourney.

Travis Griffith tied for fifth place overall with two other players with an even-par round of 72.

Corey Lampley tied for eighth place with a 73.

“I am very proud of the progress that the team is making.,” coach Brent Lovett said.

“We improved from our first invitational by about 25 strokes and that is because of the time and hard work that they are putting into their game.”

The Marshals had a team score of 316, beating Ballard Memorial by two shots for the top-five finish.

St. Mary won with a score of 285, following by Graves County (304), Calloway County (307) and Union County (310).

The MCHS second squad had a 379, led by Taylor May’s 90.

“This was a great experience for some of our younger players as well,” Lovett said.

The No. 2 unit finished 12th out of 14 teams.

In other action, the Marshals dropped a head-to-head match with St. Mary at Calvert City Country Club Aug. 22

They defeated Heath and Tilghman in a three-way match at Benton Country Club Aug. 23.

The Lady Marshals took a victory over Paducah Tilghman Aug. 23 and competed against individual players from Reidland and Caldwell County Thursday.

n The Christian Fellowship School golf team competed in two matches last week.

The Eagles trailed Crittenden County and Dawson Springs in a three-way match Aug. 22 at Marion Country Club.

They were defeated by Livingston Central in a two-team event Thursday at Deer Lakes Golf Course in Salem.

The Marshall County and CFS teams are in action this afternoon, MCHS at Kentucky Dam Village State Park and CFS at the Calvert City Country Club course.
