DRAFFENVILLE – Marshall County jumped out to 14-3 lead in the first four minutes and never let up on the way to a 93-51 win over visiting Heath Tuesday night at Reed Conder Gymnasium.

The Pirates, second-best in First Region boys’ basketball, were thwarted at every turn while the Marshals played near-perfect basketball, shooting a blistering 71 percent from the floor and scoring 24 of their 37 field goals on assists.

Cole Nelson led the assault, hitting six of nine shots, including one of two three-point attempts, and eight of 10 free throws for 21 points, handing out six assists and coming up with two of the Marshals’ 12 steals.

Chase Clark had 13 and Austin Rentfrow overcame first-half foul trouble to score 10 points and claim a game-high five rebounds.

Senior guard Drew Wrinkle was the only Pirate in double figures with 12.

The Lady Marshals traveled north and handed Marion, Ill., a 66-39 defeat.

Complete details will be in Tuesday’s Trib.
