BENTON – One of Benton’s busiest stretches of road will get a new traffic signal. Officals last week confirmed plans to install a traffic signal at the intersection of 5th and Commerce streets in Benton.

Keith Todd with the Kentucky Department of Highways said some of the materials for the light have been delivered to the site in front of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Complex, but did not give an estimate when the light would become operational. According to Todd, work on the Eggner’s Ferry Bridge is keeping highway crews busy.

“Our electrical crews are all at the bridge, which is the priority right now,” Todd said. “You may begin to see some poles being set, but installing the actual traffic light is a secondary priority.”

He said normally it takes about six weeks to install a light, but with all the focus right now being to restore power to the bridge he expects it will take longer than that.
