PADUCAH – Christian Fellowship and Marshall County teams participated in the Quad States Volleyball Tournament Friday and Saturday, a 29-team competition staged at Lone Oak High School and the Sports Plex.
CFS’s Lady Eagles won two of five matches while the Lady Marshals of Marshall County High School picked up one victory.
One of the CFS wins came against Marshall County in Saturday action after Friday’s pool play was completed. The 2-0 win was the second triumph for CFS over their rivals in five days, following a home-court win on Tuesday of last week.
The wins were sweet for the Lady Eagles, who had lost 10 straight to Marshall County since defeating the Lady Marshals in the 2006 district tournament championship.
“Marshall’s always been a tough team. It’s definitely special to beat them,” CFS senior Jordan Beale said.
The two teams were scheduled to square off again at the MCHS Auxiliary Gym on Monday.
In the Quad States event, CFS lost to Community Christian and Massac County, Ill., by 2-0 scores and then defeated Daviess County 2-0 on Friday. In Saturday play, they defeated Marshall County 2-0 and lost to Owensboro Catholic.
The Lady Marshals dropped 2-0 decisions to Lexington Henry Clay and Fulton City and fell to Graves County 2-1 in pool play. On Saturday, they defeated Hickman County 2-0.
In other action last week, both Marshall teams won in Thursday action. The Lady Marshals won the Volley for a Cure special over Ballard Memorial 2-1 and Christian Fellowship traveled to Murray and claimed a 2-1 district victory.
Going into Monday’s match, the Lady Eagles were 19-10, 5-0 in district play, while Marshall County was 9-18, 4-2.
