Mr. John “J.C.” O’Daniel, 82, of Benton, passed away Saturday, September 7, peacefully at his home, surrounded by his children and his loyal dog Sam. Born March 13, 1931 in Marshall Co., he was the retired owner of his own auto repair shop and was also an avid collector and restorer of classic Ford Mustangs. He also worked as a bridge foreman with the I.C.R.Railroad and was later a foreman at SKW in Calvert City. J.C. honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was of the Baptist Faith

He was the son of the late Robert O’Daniel and the late Grace (Lowery)O’Daniel.

He is also survived by his wife of 62 years, Toni O’Daniel of Benton, two daughters: Shawn O’Daniel of Mayfield, and Cindy Hicks of Benton, three sons; Johnny O’Daniel of Key Largo, Fla., Joey O’Daniel of Murray, and Billy O’Daniel, wife Lynette of Calvert City, one sister, Dorothy Blagg of Reidland, seven grandchildren; Stacy Blakeley of Cadiz, Kenny O’Daniel of Cooleemee, N.C., Kelly O’Daniel of Palmyra, N.Y., Cara Green of Benton, Kelsie O’Bryon of Charlotte, N.C., Preston Hicks and Eric Hicks both of Benton, five great grandchildren; nine granddogs; Cooter, Lizzie, Mickey, Buddy, Alf, JoJo, Gus, Sam and Spanky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Bobby O’Daniel, two brothers; Tom O’Daniel and Jim O’Daniel.

Arrangements are being handled by Collier Funeral Home, P.O. Box 492, Benton, KY

Graveside services were held Monday, September 9 at 6:00 p.m. in the Briensburg Cemetery, Benton. Rev. Chris Clark officiated. Interment with full military honors by American Legion post 236 Honor Guard followed in the Briensburg Cemetery, Benton.
