James Milton Smith, 78, of Murray, formerly of Marshall County, passed away at 11:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at his home.

Mr. Smith was a self-employed truck driver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Alford Masonic Lodge #925 F & AM and a member of Aurora Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Mae Hubbs Smith of Murray; three daughters, Kathleen Yancy of Fort Pierce, Fla., Elizabeth Ann Coaley of St. Louis and Faye Lynn Kaiser of Sikeston, Mo.; seven stepchildren, Darla Sue Cornwell of Kuttawa, Debbie June Reed of Calvert City, Douglas Allen Cornwell of Murray, Kerrie Jarell of Dexter, Mo., Tina Dannamuller and Jennie Phillips of Cape Giradeau, Mo., and Susan Roberds of Mansfield, Ohio; one sister, Bettie Sue Smith of Asheville, N.C.; seven grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Lee Smith. His parents were Parker Clayton Smith and Euva Mae Bell Phillips Nichols.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home. Rev. Dewey Dick will officiate and burial with military rites will follow in the Marshall County Memory Gardens. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, with Masonic rites being held at 6 p.m. at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home.
