James Marion Mathis, 89, of Benton, died January 12, at his residence.

Mr. Mathis was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He served in the US Army during World War II.

Mr. Mathis was retired from Penwalt where he worked as a Machinist.

He is survived by one daughter, Danetta Weaver of Benton; two sons, Mickey Mathis, of Benton and Mike Mathis of Benton; step-son, Russell Palmer of Benton; step-daughter, Debbie Smith of Benton; brother, Other Mathis Jr. of Benton; and sisters, Mary Alice Johnston, Lucy Tolbert, Ann Thweatt, and Gretta Morris all of Benton.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Reva (Cole) Mathis; his second wife: Louise (Cox) Palmer Mathis; brothers, Cratus Mathis and Dillard Mathis; and his parents, Other Mathis and Gorda (Creason) Mathis.

Funeral services wereheld at Collier Funeral Chapel Jan. 15, Rev. Joe Daryl Thorn officiated.

Interment followed at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, in Benton with military rites.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Pleasant Grove Cemetery Fund, 16 Wadesboro Rd. South, Benton, KY 42025.
