James L. “Bubby” Owen, 91, of Calvert City died on Sunday, June 15 at his home in Calvert City. Mr. Owen was a member of Calvert City Church of Christ. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the 6th division, 63rd infantry in New Guinea and the Phillipines as a combat medic. He was recalled to duty during the Korean War where he served at Walter Reed Army Hospital. Mr. Owen was a member of the Ironworkers Local 782 of Paducah.

He was born Thursday, March 29, 1923 in Gilbertsville. He was the son of the late Carl F. Owen and the late Lilly (Shadwick) Owen.

He is survived by his wife, Benita Sue (Wright) Owen; sons, James Richard “Jim” Owen, wife Barbara of Calvert City and William McCray “Bill” Owen, wife Teresa of Benton, sisters, Dorotha L. “Titter” Bash of Ventura, California and Dolly M. Binkley of Calvert City; four grand children, Justin C. Owen, Jordan B. Owen, Evan M. Owen, Kelsey A. Owen; and two great grand children, Waylon James Owen and Tucker Brian Owen.

Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18 at Calvert City Church of Christ. Lance Cordle officiated.

Interment with military honors followed in Provine Cemetery in Benton.
