He was born Aug. 29, 1935, in Marshall County, the son of James A. and Melba (Crass) Wilkins. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army. After discharge he worked as a sheet metal worker and retired in 1989.
Jim was never more happy than when he was cooking or going fishing with his friends. He was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara of the home. He is also survived by his son Jimmy Wilkins; daughter, Shelly (Scott) Angello; three grandchildren, Lisa, Lori and Lacey Angello all of Lansing; two sisters, Carol (Jim) Holland, Norma (Joe) Nimmo; one brother, Hollis (Sherry) Wilkins all of Benton.
He was preceded in death by his son, Barry Wilkins; his parents; and his brother, Gary Wilkins.
Services were held at Leintz Funeral Home with Chaplain John Divine presiding. Burial followed at Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Bill Powell Memorial Volleyball Scholarship Fund or Kansas Children with Challenges.
