James “Buck” Brien, 88, Benton, died on Monday, May 13, at Lakeway Nursing & Rehabilitation in Benton.

Mr. Brien was a retired trooper for the Kentucky State Police. He was a member of the U.S. Army and the T.L. Jefferson Lodge.

Born Friday, February 27, 1925 in Marshall County, he was the son of the late Elmer Brien and the late Zela Frizzell Brien.

Surviving are his wife, Celestie “Lestie Lou” Darnall Brien; daughters, Anita Johnston, Benton and Barbara Hallman of Adairville; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by son, Glenn Boyd Brien and his brother, John L. Brien.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, May 16, at Collier Funeral Chapel in Benton, with Dr. Gene Gilliland and Mark Ray officiating. Interment followed in Benton Church of Christ Cemetery.
