Hardin man dies when car hits scooter

A Hardin man was fatally injured when his motor scooter was struck by an SUV Sunday in Calloway County.

The victim was identified as Ropert Andrus, 77.

Andrus was riding a 2006 Yamaha scooter heading north in the emergency lane of U.S. 641 North at the Wind Drive intersection, according to a Kentucky State Police accident report,

Susan Dillon, 40, Murray, was driving a 2007 Jeep Commander and crossed both northbound lanes before she was struck by Andrus, the report said.

Police said Andrus was not wearing a helmet.

Time of the accident was listed as 10:57 a.m.

Andrus was taken to Murray-Calloway Hospital where he died of his injuries. Dillon and passengers Chance McCoy, 15, and Shay McCoy, 6, were uninjured.

Funeral arrangements for Andrus, handled by Collier Funeral Home of Benton, were incomplete as of the morning of April 15.

An investigation continues by collision reconstructionist specialist Sergeant Joey Adams of the KSP.
