DRAFFENVILLE – The third edition of the Gunner’s Magic Train basketball showcase promises to be the best ever, according to event co-founder Jeff Waters of WCBL Radio.
Waters is the radio voice of the Marshals.
This year’s event, scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Reed Conder Gymnasium, will feature seven games, including one each night for the Marshals and Lady Marshals teams. The home teams will play counterparts from Arnold High School in Panama City Beach, Fla., on Friday.
On Saturday, the Lady Marshals meet Second Region powerhouse Henderson County while the Marshals will play Madisonville.
In other games, Madisonville’s boys take on Ohio County on Friday; the Arnold girls play Calloway County on Saturday; and the Arnold boys play Hopkins County Central on Saturday.
The event is a memorial tribute and a fundraiser to the foundation established in honor of Gunner Gillespie, son of MCHS coach Gus Gillespie and his wife, Janna, after Gunner died at age 8 in October 2008.
One purpose is to raise funds and awareness in the fight against childhood cancer.
