U.S. Senate Candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes has confirmed she will bring her bus tour to the Benton Court Square this Friday, May 9. Grimes will speak during a campaign rally which will begin at 2:00 p.m.

The Grimes campaign event is part of a swing through western Kentucky. The campaign also has stops planned in Paducah, Mayfield, Murray, Cadiz and Hopkinsville.

Grimes has amassed widespread grassroots support among voters visiting cities and towns across the state since announcing her campaign against Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell. Recent polls show the race is a dead heat between the two.

First quarter 2014 campaign receipts released recently show Grimes with an advantage over McConnell, $2.7 million to $2.4 million respectively, with the incumbent spending $2.9 million as the primary campaign heated up.

McConnell faces a primary election challenge against Matt Bevin on May 20. Polls show the incumbent with a comfortable lead over his challenger in that race.

Campaign spokesperson, Charlie Norton, said Grimes will discuss her jobs plan and her vision for western Kentucky during the stop in Benton.

In the event of rain, the rally will be held inside the courthouse.
