DRAFFENVILLE – A perfect start to the season for the Lady Marshals soccer team ended in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Graves County Tuesday, and then cancelation of the Lady Marshal Classic tournament Friday and Saturday delayed their opportunity to get back on the winning track.

The tourney Friday and Saturday was called off because of threatening weather.

That chance will come today, when the team travels to Hopkinsville for a 7 p.m. match with the Lady Tigers, who are at the top of the Region 2 standings with an identical 6-1 mark.

That will be the only game this week for coach Michael Boone’s team, who fought Graves County to a scoreless tie at halftime of their match last week at Colburn Stadium.

Graves got two goals in quick succession midway in the second period and keeper Katie Thomas had eight saves to preserve the shutout.

Graves (9-1) went on to post three more wins in the Purples Classic at Bowling Green during the weekend, but lost 3-0 in the championship match to the host Purples.

The Lady Marshals defeated Bowling Green 3-0 Aug. 25.

Sophomore forward Cami Jones leads the team in scoring with 11 goals in seven games. Junior Toni Fehrenbacher has scored nine goals.

The team has outscored its opponents 33-6, with two shutout wins
