Jamie Gilland and Rachael Reed are winners of the Fall Sports Tribby Awards as male and female athletes of the year.

MCHS boys soccer coach Andy Pagel got the nod from Trib readers as coach of the year.

In categories for the most memorable accomplishment by a team or individual and most memorable match or game, the Lady Marshal golf team’s second consecutive trip to the state tournament and a Lady Marshals win over Christian Fellowship in the volleyball district tournament were chosen.

Gilland completed an injury-plagued football career by leading the Marshals in rushing and in scoring, even though he was able to play in only nine games – and did not play in several of those games in his offensive position as running back.

The 5-10, 180-pound Gilland carried the ball 65 times and gained 705 yards, scoring nine touchdowns on the ground and adding two more on a punt return and an interception return. He also scored one two-point conversion for 68 points.

Gilland plans to return to basketball after sitting out the last two hoops seasons.

Reed was a stalwart on the Lady Marshals volleyball team which advanced to the region tournament after the upset victory over Christian Fellowship in the district tournament at Marshall County.

That 3-1 win came by scores of 25-18, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-14 and snapped a five-match winning streak by the Lady Eagles.

Pagel’s second Marshals soccer team completed a 17-2 season by returning to the state tournament after a 2-1 win over Heath in the region finale.

The Lady Marshal golfers returned to the state tourney in Bowling Green and advanced to the second day of play, ending up 10th in team standings, in their first year under coach Vince Doom.

The team, led by sophomore Cayce Hendrickson and freshman Bailey Tyree, finished second to Calloway County in the region tourney for the second year in a row to qualify for state.
