Gerald Whetsell, 76, of Benton went to be home with Jesus on June 1 in Benton. He retired after over 40 enjoyable years working for TVA and the Corps of Engineers. Mr. Whetsell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Benton. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Mr. Whetsell was a very caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Kathlyn (Jones) Whetsell; daughter Jana Hever, husband John of Orlando, Fla.; and son Jon Whetsell of Birmingham, Ala.; sister Geraldine Linkous, husband Paul of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren Amanda Hack, husband Jarred of Paducah; Katelyn, Kara, Emily and Caleb Hever of Orlando, Fla.; great grandchildren Ansley and Kylee Hack of Paducah; brother and sister-in-law Paul and Barbara Jones of Benton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was the son of Donald Alvin Whetsell Sr. and Mamie Lee (Arp) Whetsell. He was also preceded in death by brothers Donald Alvin Whetsell Jr. and Clarence Whetsell and sister Yvonne Whetsell and daughter Mitzie Parks, husband David, of Paducah.

He was a good man and all who knew him knew what he stood for: Jesus Christ his savior.

Funeral service will be at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4 with Bob Warren and Brother Don Wilson officiating. Interment will be at Marshall County Memory Gardens in Benton.
