He was mechanic for the Marshall County Road Department and a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ann Dees Thorpe; son Donald Thorpe of Gilbertsville; daughter Ann Hudson and husband Ronnie of Gilbertsvilles; two grandchildren, Amanda Hudson of Gilbertsville and Lindsay Burkeen and husband Dustin of Benton;three great grandchildren, Allie Burkeen, Maddie Burkeen and Grady Holland; brother Jimmy Thorpe of Clarksville, Tenn. and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. J.C. Thorpe and Kelsy Thorpe and one granddaughter, Tessa Hudson. His parents were John F. and Earlene Pollar Thorpe.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16 at Lakeland Funeral Home. Rev. Charlie Canup officiated. Burial with military rites followed in Ramey Cemetery in Lyon County.
