The Rev. Frederick Evan Doty, 82, Benton, passed away at 7:51 p.m. Monday, April 1, at his residence.

Bro. Doty was a retired United Methodist minister, and a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He served in the 2nd Armored Division in Germany and the 325th Infantry Division of the 82nd Airborne. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Benton and attended Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He worked for Caterpillar in Aurora, Ill.; and B.F. Goodrich in Calvert City. He was also a franchise owner of two Kentucky Fried Chicken Stores in Benton and Calvert City. After taking an early retirement, Fred and his wife Doris answered the call from God. They were called to oversee the rebuilding of a Baptist church in Millen, GA. They next did missionary work in Kerrville, Texas. Fred then accepted an appointment to pastor Methodist churches in southeast Georgia, and west Tennessee. Fred and his wife Doris were happily married for 60 years.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Fowler Doty of Benton; two daughters, Barbara Morgan and her husband Tracy, Benton, and Maria Seidel and her husband Allen, Birmingham, Ala.; one son, Frederick Wayne Doty, Calvert City; one brother, Paul Doty of Knoxville, Tenn.; his grandchildren, Trey Seidel, Amanda Seidel, Adam Seidel, Julie Seidel, Kristen Seidel and Tommy Babakitis, Meagan Doty, Josh and Lizzie Darnall, Robin and Jason Stevenson and Jesse Darnall and five greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Doty and Stewart “Jack” Doty and four sisters, Louise Carle, Margaret Phillips, Patricia Suiter and Geraldine Doty. His parents were Frederick Lewis Doty and Nelle Mae Evans Doty.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 4, at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home & Crematory. Rev. Jim Calhoun and Rev. Ben Boone officiated. Following the service, his body was donated to the University of Louisville Medical School.
