CALVERT CITY– An overnight fire destroyed a home at 1188 South Main Street in Calvert City early Sunday. The fire was reported by a passerby at around 2 a.m. No one was in the house at the time of the fire.
The Calvert City Fire Department was the first to respond. Chief Fred Ross said when he arrived on the scene the roof had already fallen in and flames could be seen from every window in the home.
The Possum Trot and Gilbertsville Fire Departments were called to the scene to assist with extinguishing the blaze. Firefighters from all three departments remained on the scene for nearly three hours.
Ross said the cause of the blaze is not yet known.
