PADUCAH – The high line was the right line for Benton’s Tanner English, who rode a razor edge of control inches away from the outside concrete retaining wall and won the 20-lap Super Late Model feature Friday night at Paducah International Raceway.

Tyler Reddick took second, moving into that spot when Palma driver Tim Brown tagged the wall on the sixth lap. Brown recovered and finished third after making a late pass to get by Jason Riggs.

It was the second career LM feature win at the 3/8-mile high-banked dirt oval for English, but his first in two years. On April 22, 2010, English – then a 17-year-old Marshall County High School junior – edged his national championship-winning father, Terry, making a last-lap, Turn 4 pass with the checkered flag in sight.

This win wasn’t nearly that dramatic. English, who started outside Brown on the front row, took the early lead and held it all the way, winning by a half-dozen car lengths.

But it wasn’t easy.

“Not really,” English said. “It was hard to follow the line. It was slippery.”

Brown, whose car was not seriously damaged when he slapped the wall early in the race, echoed English’s thoughts.

“It was really slick up there,” Brown said. “I got into it [the wall] one time.”

Todd Hall rounded out the top five.

Feature winners in other divisions were Dustin Isom in Modified, John Tindal in Crate Late Model, Tony Cruse in Street Stock, Michael Hendrickson in 4-Cylinder Warriors and Daniel Edwards in High School Warriors.

Mike Moore won the Kentucky Vintage Racing Association feature.

Marshall County drivers were prominent in all divisions, with Keaton Downing of Gilbertsville duplicating his feat from a week earlier by winning his heat race, then chasing Cruse to the checkered flag in second place in the Street Stock feature.

Justin Story of Benton fought his way to a fifth-place finish in the Modified feature.

Kyle Clark of Calvert City was fourth in the 4-Cylinder Warrior feature and Eli English of Palma was third in the High School Warriors event.

Cameron Brown finished fifth in the Crate Late Model feature, best of several county drivers competing in that division.

[BULLET] Terry English of Benton won the Super Late Model feature Saturday night at Clarksville Speedway and his son, Tanner, was second.
