BENTON– For the second time in as many weeks someone has broken into The Marshall County Animal Shelter on Benton Briensburg Road. On both occasions dogs were removed from the facility.

Misti Wagner, with the Shelter said sometime after noon on Sunday someone pushed in the gates and bent the fencing gaining access to the area housing dogs. When shelter staff arrived to work on Monday morning they found two Labrador Retrievers missing. Roxie and Trixie, two black labs, both about a year old are gone without a trace.

Two weeks ago the same thing happened when another dog was released from the shelter, but later turned back up there injured.

Wagner said on both occasions nothing else was taken.

“We have computers and antibiotics used for the animals in the office and nothing else was bothered either time,” she said.

Wagner said cleaning staff was in the building on Sunday morning until about noon and nothing had been bothered at that time.

Detective Dan Malone with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an investigation.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Roxie and Trixie or any other information on the Marshall County Shelter break-ins you should contact Malone at 527-3112.
