He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Benton. He was retired from BellSouth where he worked as a manager, and was a member of the AT&T Pioneers.
Mr. Metts was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was the son of Fred Simpson Metts and Onie B. (Hataway) Metts.
He is survived by his wife Patricia “P.J.” Metts, Benton, daughters Lisa Balton of Memphis, Tenn., and Laura Harris of Kevil, sons Michael Metts of Vista, Calif., and Troy Metts of Loganville, Ga.; sisters Fredda Hobgood of Vicksburg, Miss., and Veta King and Anita Pennington of Memphis, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at Collier Funeral Chapel Saturday, Oct. 20. Rev. Don Wilson officiated. Interment with military honors followed at the Moreland Cemetery in Gilbertsville.
