A special-called meeting of the Marshall County Fiscal Court will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning to consider the release of information from special counsel Kent Wicker. The meeting will take place in the Joe Williams Fiscal Courtroom on the 2nd floor of the Marshall County Courthouse.

County Judge Executive Mike Miller had confirmed receipt of a report by Wicker with findings from the investigation, which was conducted at the direction of county commissioners based on a complaint by commissioner Misti Drew.

On Friday Miller said the county governing body had no plans of calling a session this week to review the report, but this morning members of the media were alerted to the special-called meeting.

Wicker conducted initial interviews of commissioners, treasurer Emily Martin and county attorney Jeff Edwards in early July. Edwards said his office was later contacted by Wicker requesting more documents in the investigation, including minutes from fiscal court meetings.

At last week's meeting commissioners approved a first payment in the amount of $5,475 to the law office of Reed and Wicker, of which Kent Wicker is a partner.

Marshall County had voted in special session on July 2 to hire Wicker for the investigation during a deeply divisive meeting.

Many who packed the courtroom were opposed to hiring outside counsel and said Wicker’s fee of $300 an hour was too costly.

Drew's complaint was based on the circumstance under which long-time Marshall County dog warden Goldenrod Kirk left the employment of the county earlier this year.

Drew said the court was informed of Kirk’s retirement, but later learned he was receiving unemployment and that a county document indicated Kirk was laid off/terminated.

Miller has acknowledged signing the document and said Kirk resigned his position after learning of changes to his job duties.
