Officials from the Marshall County Emergency Management office and several other county officials met Thursday morning for a conference call with the National Weather Service and to begin preparations in the event of an ice storm in the hours ahead.

The severe weather is coming in two parts according to forecasters – part one could appear in Marshall County late Thursday night or early Friday morning and the other part could appear on Saturday. Saturday's inclement weather predictions may change depending on how severe the first part of the weather is.

Among those in attendance were Melissa McFerrin, EMS director, Judge Executive Mike Miller, Lynn Lane, of the Kentucky Department of Transportation, and representatives from other county agencies.

NWS forecasters said the weather in upcoming days could possibly make it the third worst ice storm in the last decade, but said it was too early to confirm how much ice would accumulate.

Areas nearest to Tennessee including western Kentucky could see more ice than sleet or snow, according to reports.

Those in attendance for the call have begun formulating plans in the event there are power outages – that information will be released later Thursday afternoon.

Miller told those in attendance Emergency Management would be coordinating services.

"I want everything to go through Emergency Management. They are the central command that is needed to prevent any kind of chaos," he said.

Warming centers will open Friday morning at the Benton Community Center, Calvert City Civic Center and the Hardin Senior Center.
