On Monday August 6th at 11:13 p.m. Deputy William Strader was dispatched to Gilbertsville Hwy in reference to a subject being pushed through a glass window. On arrival Deputy Strader made contact with the injured but saw no evidence to support the claim of assault. The subject was manifestly under the influence of an unknown intoxicant. The subject had already been notified by other Deputies earlier in the evening to stay inside on two separate occasions. Cory A. Burkeen 24, of Gilbertsville, was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication-Controlled Substance.
Burkeen was involved in the Memorial Day accident on Hwy. 95 that left four teenagers injured, two critically. At the time of the incident sheriff's deputies had reported a strong smell of alcohol on Burkeen, but no alcohol was found in his blood stream. Results of toxicology to check for other substances is not yet back from the state crime lab and no charges have been filed in the accident.
Landon Lovett, one of the teens injured in the accident, remains hospitalized in Nashville.
