BENTON – A Benton man was arrested Friday night at the Marshall County High School football game following a chase by sheriff’s deputies.
Jeremy D. Hicks, 32, was charged with public intoxication, controlled substance; fleeing or evading police 2nd degree – foot; resisting arrest; assault 3rd degree – police officer; possession of marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to police reports, deputy Eddie McGuire was investigating an alleged incident at the football game at Marshall County High School. According to the citation filed by deputy McGuire, deputy Steven Oakley was off duty at the game when he was approached by witnesses in the crowd of a person acting suspiciously and “ snorting “ something off of his hand. Deputy Oakley contacted deputies McGuire and Deputy Cory Curtner, who asked the man to come out of the stands. As they left the stands, the suspect fled on foot and was apprehended after a chase of approximately 150 feet.
A Tazer was used in the apprehension.
Hicks was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.
