DRAFFENVILLE – Belleville (Ill.) Post 58 swept three victories and won the championship in the rain-shortened Post 236 Junior American Legion Invitational Tournament Friday and Saturday.

The tournament, sponsored by William A. Doyle Post 236 of Calvert City, was held at Mike Miller Park and Marshall County High School baseball fields.

Belleville defeated the Kentucky Reds team from Mayfield 13-1 on Friday and then took wins over Cape Girardeau and Marshall County, both by 4-2 scores, on Saturday.

Mt. Juliet, Tenn., won the Group B title with victories over Orient, Ill., 9-0 and Kentucky Reds 13-2 on Saturday to claim second place.

The Marshall County team was also 2-1, with wins over Mt. Juliet 11-1 on Friday and Cape Girardeau 6-4 on Saturday.

Orient was 2-1 with a 1-0 win over Cape Girardeau on Friday and a 10-0 win over Kentucky Reds on Saturday.

Sunday’s scheduled playoff games matching the first-, second- and third-place teams from the two groups were rained out.
